This Ford 8.8" rear master overhaul kit is designed for 2015 and newer Ford Super 8.8 rear axle applications used in the F-150 and IRS Mustang platforms. This kit includes Timken bearings and races along with the preload hardware and shim components needed to properly rebuild and set up the newer-generation Ford 8.8" rear differential.

The 2015+ Ford Super 8.8 platform is used in both truck and high-performance IRS applications, making it important to use application-specific rebuild components during gear installations or differential service. Mustang IRS stub axle seals and needle bearings are sold separately because those components vary by IRS configuration.

Tech Insight 

The newer Ford Super 8.8 differential platform features updated housing, bearing, and cover designs compared to earlier Ford 8.8 axles. Proper setup during gear installation or overhaul is critical because incorrect backlash or preload can quickly lead to gear noise, overheating, and premature bearing wear.

In Mustang IRS applications, additional stub axle bearings and seals are located within the independent suspension assembly and are serviced separately from the differential itself. F-150 applications use a more traditional solid rear axle configuration, but both platforms rely on precise pinion depth and preload settings to maintain long-term ring and pinion durability under towing, performance driving, or oversized tire loads.
