The factory kingpin spring system used in Dana 60 front axles relies on spring pressure to maintain preload within the knuckle assembly. Under increased steering load from larger tires and off-road use, the factory spring can compress and lose effectiveness, allowing excess movement that contributes to steering slop and death wobble.
The Crane Axle Spring Eliminator replaces the spring assembly with heavy durometer bushings that maintain more consistent preload under load. Combined with new lower kingpin bearings and seals, this setup improves steering feel, reduces unwanted knuckle movement, and increases long-term reliability in lifted and high-load steering applications. Preload can be adjusted using the included shims to fine-tune steering resistance and knuckle stability.
